Meraki MS Switch Series

Sections:

MS Data Sheet:

Overview:

  • Meraki MS switches are part of Cisco Meraki's line of cloud-managed Ethernet switches offering centralized management through the Meraki Dashboard
  • In this section, I will illustrate some key features and types of Meraki switches available

MS Switch Features

Cloud Management

  • Meraki MS switches are managed via the Meraki Dashboard allowing administrators to monitor and configure the switches from anywhere remotely eliminating the need for on premise management servers

Zero-Touch Provisioning

  • Meraki MS switches feature zero touch provisioning, meaning that when a switch is plugged in and connected to the Internet, it automatically connects to the Meraki cloud and pulls down the required configuration simplifying the setup process for new switches

Layer 2 and Layer 3 Switching

  • Meraki MS switches support both layer2 and layer3 switching, supporting features such as VLAN creation, link aggregation, and advanced features like inter-VLAN routing

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

  • Many Meraki MS switch models support PoE, enabling them to provide power to compatible devices such as wireless access points, IP phones, and security cameras through the use of Ethernet cables
  • PoE reduces the need for separate power supplies, simplifying deployment and cabling clutter

High Availability (HA)

  • Meraki MS switches support stacking in certain models, allowing multiple switches to be managed as a single unit improving network uptime reliability and redundancy

Advanced Security Features

  • Meraki MS switches support various built-in advanced features such as Port security, 802.1X authentication, and private VLANs

Advanced QoS (Quality of Service)

  • QoS features allow administrators to prioritize critical applications like voIP and other latency sensitive traffic over less important data ensuring optimal performance for mission critical services
